Does Toothpaste pregnancy test work?

Pregnancy test using just toothpaste sounds fascinating, doesn’t it? But read this before you actually start doing it right away!

A toothpaste pregnancy test requires you to collect a sample of your early morning urine and mix it with a small amount of toothpaste. Once stirred properly, you would observe a fuzz or reaction indicating that you are pregnant. If there is no reaction even after waiting for a while, then it means that you are not pregnant. Sounds simple, right? But are these results anywhere near accurate? Let’s understand how exactly it works!

Toothpaste consists of calcium carbonate that when comes in contact with the urine sample undergoes a reaction. This happens due to the acidity of urine which has nothing to do with pregnancy. Pregnancy is usually detected by the presence of HCG (Human Chronic Gonadotropin) hormone in the urine. The levels of HCG increases during pregnancy and it can be detected using a urine pregnancy test kit. Toothpaste is not capable of detecting HCG levels least reacting to it. Therefore it would be right to say that toothpaste pregnancy test kit is quite ineffective!

However, since it is a lot of fun to do and costs almost nothing! So you give it a try once. But do remember that the results obtained by this method are not accurate at all. Once you buy pregnancy test kit, You should get yourself tested with it.
