Menstrual cups are becoming more and more popular as the days fly. Before purchase menstrual cup one must know how to use it. Today, we will walk you through the step-by-step guide to how to use a menstrual cup.
1. Fold the cup in C-shape
Take out the new menstrual cup. Be sure to wash the cup and your hands before going any further. Now try to fold the cup in C-shape which is a widely followed technique to insert the menstrual cup into the vagina.
2. Insert the cup
Just like tampons, insert the folded menstrual cup into the vagina. Once the cup is in, it should pop open. Make sure the cup is open with your finger. Now slightly pull the cup down to create suction inside the vagina to avoid the leakage. If your cup is still folded inside the vagina, then try rotating the cup either side with the help of the stem of the cup. Or move the cup from left to right or right to left to open it.
If you're doing it wrong, take your time and relax - it's just like getting used to the new boots.
3. You can use upto 12 hours.
This is where the menstrual cups win over tampons. Yes, you can use the menstrual cup upto 12 hours. However, the usage time depends on your menstrual flow. If you're on heavy flow period, try checking every 6-8 hours. If the cup is full, then empty the cup and reinsert the empty cup after washing with water.
4. Removal
Before removing the cup from the vagina, always wash your hands. Gently pull down the cup until you can reach with the help of the stem. Now pinch the base to break the suction inside the vagina. After breaking the suction, take the cup out and pour the blood out. After emptying the cup, wash the cup with warm or cold water.
