Reusable cloth pads are the best way to maintain intimate hygiene and sanitation during periods. These pads are not only reusable but also eco-friendly! Moreover, they are easy to carry and can easily fit in a carry pouch. For someone using cloth pads for the first time, cleansing and cleaning these pads might seem challenging. But surprisingly, the cloth sanitary pads are easy to clean! Just you need to read the steps mentioned below:
5 Simple steps to wash cloth pads
Step 1: Soak the cloth pad in cold water.
You need to soak it in cold water initially before washing it. This helps in the removal of blood from the material of the pad. Using hot water instead would make the blood stain set on the cloth material. Therefore, it is advisable to rinse it in cold water with the used side facing downward so that the blood settles down at the bottom of the water container.
Step 2: Wash with cold water
Don’t use waste water like already used water. Cold water wash is better for the cloth pads and washing with soap further helps remove residues, especially to wash out the fat-based blood components. Wash your cloth pads by hand or in a washing machine.
Step 3: Pull into shape
Pulling the wet cloth pad into shape helps to keep its form and avoid cotton shrinkage.
Step 4: Dry on a clothesline
Thorough drying is important! You can do this on the clothesline or in a tumble dryer on low heat. Drying in direct sunlight can help to prevent staining and it is a natural sanitizer.
Step 5: Put the pads away till next cycle!
Carry the used pads by folding them and store your pads in a clean and dry area (carry pouch) until it’s time to use them again.
Note: Wash and dry them before first-time use.
